BANGKOK (AFP) - Thailand's public health authority announced Wednesday 14 new fatalities from swine flu over the past week, bringing the total death toll in the kingdom to 111.
Over the week to Saturday, seven men and seven women who had contracted the A(H1N1) virus died, though 12 of them had underlying health problems ranging from obesity and heart disease to diabetes.
"The situation is stable in Bangkok and the surrounding provinces but the virus is on the rise upcountry and we expect the outbreak to continue for the next two months until the cool season begins," a government statement said.
Official figures for the virus began to be recorded on April 26. (AFP)
