City crime rate down by 15%

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur which recorded a 39 percent increase in criminal cases in the first three months of the year, saw it dip by 15 percent, in the following three months.

Among crimes which showed an obvious decrease are armed gang robbery, snatch theft and motorcycle and car theft, said city police chief Datuk Wira Muhammad Sabtu Osman.

"Previously, Kuala Lumpur recorded an increase of 39 percent in criminal cases, as compared to the same period last year, but in the following three months, it went down to 24 percent," Muhammad Sabtu told reporters after the Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Monthly Assembly here today (14 July).

He said drastic measures through integrated operations conducted since April 14, showed positive signs and would be continued in a third phase.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Sabtu has warned the public against taking part in an assembly on Aug 1, as there was no application for a permit.

The red and black themed assembly is expected to begin at 2pm, at three locations, namely in front of Sogo, Masjid Jamek and Masjid Negara. (Bernama)
