KUALA KRAI: Kuala Krai PAS Area secretary Mohd Fauzi Abdullah has been named as PAS candidate for the Manik Urai state by-election on July 14.

PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who announced the candidate here Friday night, said Mohd Fauzi, 50, who is a local, was chosen due to his commitment to the party.

Mohd Fauzi, a fish wholesaler at the Kuala Krai Main Market here is married to Aminah Mahmud and they have four daughters and a son.

PAS Manik Urai By-election adviser Datuk Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Abdullah said Mohd Fauzi commanded the grassroots' support as well as the confidence of the party's leadership.

Mohd Fauzi was chosen over two other party members nominated by PAS Manik Urai branch, said Wan Abdul Rahim.

Meanwhile, Mohd Fauzi said he was surprised over his choice and declined further comments. (Bernama)
