3,000 UniMAP Students Stage Peaceful Protest Against Israel

KANGAR: About 3,000 students from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) staged a peaceful protest Saturday (17 Jan) against Zionist aggression in Gaza by walking 23km from Beseri to Pauh.

They started their journey from the Beseri Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) and walked through a sugarcane plantation in Chuping, before ending the Israeli Violence Peace Protest and Endurance Walk at the Ulu Pauh UniMAP campus.

The group of students carried placards condemning the Zionist aggression that has killed thousands of innocent Palestinians.

UniMAP Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Kamarudin Hussin said, in conjunction with the programme, the university also launched the "For You Palestine Humanitarian Fund" targetting a collection of more than RM30,000.

Contributions will be made by staff and students of the university through salary deductions and regular donations as well as collection from the industry.

Dr Kamarudin said the contributions will be handed to the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is UniMAP Chancellor, in a special ceremony in Feb before the money is handed to the Higher Education Ministry for onward transmission to Palestinians. (Bernama)
