Soi Lek: I'm Not Targeting The President

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek said all that he had said before was not targeted at party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.

He said he wouldn't argue, or try to evade the problems, adding that his memories were still strong and he wouldn't forget what he had earlier discussed with the president.

He also hoped the president would not forget what they had discussed despite his busy schedule.

On what the party president had discussed with him, he said it was not convenient for him to reveal the details, but said he did have a brief meeting with Tee Keat after the party elections.

"I would always remember that meeting, and treasure that very brief meeting between us."

Talking to the media on Thursday, Ong Tee Keat reminded Soi Lek to mind his words and not to contradict himself when speaking to the public.

Soi Lek was also told not to speak whatever and whenever he likes or distort facts, and must always remember what has been said.

Chua Soi Lek told Sin Chew Daily on Friday that although he holds very different views from Tee Keat at this juncture, he does not worry that the party would be plunged into total chaos, as he does not have a powerful team behind him, nor does he have any government post.

He pointed out that MCA members are matured and knowledgeable enough, and the current situation will not trigger a serious infighting within the party.

"Why should the party sink into a chaos or infighting? I do not have too many supporters or a government post. I was elected deputy president out of sheer luck."

On Tee Keat's claim that the MCA government policy monitoring bureau headed by Soi Lek is an important bureau, he responded by saying that he would elaborate on whether this is an important mission, when the time is right.

He said he was already appointed by former president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting to head the same bureau back in 2005. (By HUANG QINGHAO/Translated by DOMINIC LOH/Sin Chew Daily)
