I Can Stand On My Own, Says Donald Lim

PETALING JAYA: MCA vice-president Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai, who is vying for the MCA deputy presidency at party polls on 18 Oct, will not team up with any candidate in his bid for the post.

"I can stand on my own and I don't wish to have anyone as my running mate," the former deputy tourism minister said.

Speaking at a news conference at the Petaling Jaya Selatan MCA division office near here, Lim also said that he would not accept appoinment to become the party's secretary-general or treasurer-general after the new line-up was formed.

"I am already a vice-president... why should I go for either of these posts?" he said, adding that he would not withdraw his candidacy for the deputy presidency.

The MCA number two post will see an intense three-corner fight, with secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan and former MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek being the other two contenders.

Lim was elected one of the four MCA vice-presidents in 2005. He came in fourth in terms of number of votes. (Bernama)
