PUTRAJAYA: It is not the time now for politicking, speculating and playing political games as the country needs to remain united and cohesive to face the global financial and economic challenges, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today.

He said the government would act responsibly and swiftly to address any eventuality to safeguard the people's and the nation's interests.

"I hope all parties will understand, cooperate and do the same," said Najib, who is also Finance Minister, at a press conference.

Asked if the message was meant for anyone in particular, he said, "It's up to one's interpretation."

On views that investors would skip Malaysia even if the economy recovered due to political concerns, Najib asked: "What is so uncertain about Malaysian political situation? BN (Barisan Nasional) continues to be in power." (Bernama)
