KUALA LUMPUR: According to information available to Sin Chew Daily, the 13 Wanita MCA state liaison committee chairmen have reached a consensus on major central committee posts. Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun will run for the Wanita chairman, while incumbent secretary-general Datuk Yu Chok Tow will run for deputy chairman.
The state liaison committee chairmen said, after the March general elections, it is necessary for Wanita MCA to transform itself and make adjustments to its past ways of thinking.
In the coming party elections, senior party posts are contested through consultation, but the other appointed posts will not be reserved for any particular states as in the past.
The state liaison committee chairmen have reached a consensus on the principle of electing the most capable persons to the central committee instead of considering the leader's state representation. All appointed posts, including secretary-general, treasurer-general and organising secretary will be appointed by the national chairman elected on 17 October based on the above principle in order to form a powerful team to help MCA through the current difficulty.
The state liaison committee chairmen have reached consensus on only the posts of chairman, deputy chairman and four vice chairmen.
Among the four incumbent vice chairmen, Chang Yok Ying has expressed her decision not to seek re-election, and the state chairmen agree that Sabah state liaison committee chairman Datuk Agnes Shim will run for vice chairman.
The other three incumbents, namely Negeri Sembilan state liaison committee chairman Lee Pit Chern, Kedah chairman Datuk Lim Bee Kau and Johor chairman Tan Ah Eng, will all seek re-election as vice chairmen. (By KOK SU CHIN/Translated by DOMINIC LOH/Sin Chew Daily)
