KUCHING: Kuching police today confirmed that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has applied for a permit to hold a gathering to celebrate Malaysia day at Padang Merdeka here Tuesday (16 Sept).
Kuching OCPD ACP Wong Wai Loong said, however, that police had yet to approve the permit for the gathering, scheduled to start at 9.30am.
Meanwhile, PKR state liaison chief Dominique Ng told Bernama that this would be the fourth consecutive year that the opposition was organising the gathering to commomerate the formation of Malaysia as a nation.
Ng, who is Padungan state assemblyman, said PKR had applied for a police permit to avoid any untoward incident at the low-key event in view of the current political development in the country.
About 100-200 people were expected to turn up at the gathering, where the jalur gemilang would be hoisted, he said. (Bernama)
