XYT:
Sin Chew Daily stands by its news stories. We shall stand by them. We shall not let the bullies and hooligans have their way.
Yes, we should stand by them, because the issue here doesn't concern Sin Chew Daily alone. It doesn't concern the Chinese community alone, nor the other non-Malay communities. For it concerns all peace-loving people in Malaysia, including the Malays whose interests Ahmad Ismail was supposed to defend. And it concerns all democrats of this land. We shall no longer sit back and let these people have their way.
Huang Miao Luan:
I have known Sin Chew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng, for more than 10 years as she was my university classmate. She has and excellent disposition and attitude. She loves journalism but is worried that she would not able to be a competent journalist. Under our mutual encouragement, we managed to complete our study in journalism in University Sains Malaysia and joined the industry until today.
From the campus paper to Kwong Wah Daily and to Sin Chew Daily, has always taken seriously all the news she writes. As one of our Malay classmates said: Hoon Cheng is a competent and professional journalist!
She loves her work. She adheres to journalism's code of ethics. She never uses tricks to get her story and draws a clear line between right and wrong.
Penang Chinese newspapers reporters agree that she is a model in the industry. Thus, we chose to believe her this time.
In fact, there are many examples of politicians who claim reporters have misquoted them after they have said something, just like Wanita Gerakan Chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe's withdraw from BN's remarks and former Internal Security Deputy Minister Datuk Noh Omar's remarks of "foreigners who do not like the way his officers behave should leave the country".
Harry:
Well done Sin Chew Daily! You safeguard justice and our dignity. We have always respected other racial groups and we do not want to hurt them. But we want to punish the black sheep among them who have bigoted views and who are "bogus heroes" of their race. And our respected Dr M, you have been our old friends for years. But you have now shown your tail. We should be clear now that we have been fooled by his mask for over 20 years.
Malaysia's harmony does not need your words or actions. Regardless what is going to happen next, we will stay together with Sin Chew Daily. We want an open and sincere apology. Otherwise, there would be more black sheep that smear Chinese contributions to the country over all these years for their own fame and fortune.
Jack:
The penumpang dispute has become more intense. The person involved didn't apology but went further to claim that the reporter misquoted him. I believe that the paper I read would not intentionally write something to incite readers' sentiments.
Vincent:
The truth cannot be faked. Keep it up. I support Sin Chew Daily. You defend the truth.
CCS:
Does Sin Chew Daily provide its reporters with MP3 recorders? With the device, Ahmad Ismail would not be that arrogant. I would like to give reporter Tan Hoon Cheng a MP3 recorder.
Sad:
I'm very sad over the penumpang issue.
PKR has no big reactions, is it what we called a political party that safeguards the interests of all races?
We think it is very unfair but does any authority speak for us? It's really a pity to be a Malaysian!
Kerry:
Reporters, defend your dignity!
Politicians have again and again accused reporters for not being professional enough, misleading readers and simply cooking up news stories. Not long ago, Gerakan Chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe claimed reporters have misquoted her about withdrawing from the BN, which sah he rbeing hauled up by the Prime Minister. Now, Ahmad Ismail accused a reporter of maliciously distorting his remarks. Reporters, where are your dignity? What is the meaning of lives without dignity?
Eric:
Ms Hoon Cheng, don't give up. Malaysian Chinese support you.
TKY:
Penang Umno supports Ahmad. Someone even said: "The reporter should be shot!" Ahmad's remarks are a little bit not coherent. He first said that Malays would be hurt if they cared too much about how Chinese feel. Thus, he insisted that he has done nothing wrong and refused to apologise. But a day later, he denied that he has come out with the penumpang remarks and added that penumpang was referring to Chinese before the independence (perhaps, he modified his remarks under someone's guidance). Why not he deny it on the first day? Instead, he linked it to the 8 March defeat and blamed Chinese for not supporting BN.
Who would believe Ahmad, who stresses on Malay privileges and the New Economic Policy, that he did not come out with the penumpang>/i> remarks?
Why he was missing and didn't immediately clear his name if he didn't say it? (Sin Chew Daily)
