Yu: Ng Yen Yen's Views Not Wanita MCA's

KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita MCA secretary-general Datuk Yu Chok Tow said, the statement made by Wanita MCA chairman Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen on the sex video scandal involving former MCA vice president Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek reflected her own views, and did not represent the stand of Wanita MCA.

When contacted by Sin Chew Daily, several state-level Wanita leaders said the statement expressed by Ng reflected only her personal views, and they did not want to elaborate on whether they supported her stand on this issue.

Yu Chok Tow said the Chua Soi Lek incident had never be discussed in Wanita exco or central committee meetings.

She said, after Ng made the statement, she has received calls from party members, including some male members, enquiring whether what Ng expressed represented the stand of Wanita MCA.

"As she is the Wanita chairman, many people feel that her statement represents Wanita's stand. This has caused some confusion."

"However, I want to say that Wanita has never talked about this matter in our meetings, and has never arrived at any official stand on the issue. That was purely her own stand."

Ng Yen Yen recently said, since Chua's wife had already forgiven him, Malaysians should also try to forgive his past misdeeds with an open heart. Moreover, she felt that a party leader should not be elected merely based on moral standards, but a leader's competence level, EQ and other factors should be assessed on a broader scope.

On whether Wanita MCA should discuss the Chua Soi Lek incident, Yu said it was unnecessary for Wanita to do so.

On how she herself saw the incident, Yu said constructive statements related to the party, nation and society should be made at this juncture instead.

She went on to say that everyone had his or her own values or views on any given issue, as well as the right to express them.

Chew: right to express personal views

Wanita MCA deputy chairman cum Wanita MCA Selangor chairman Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun said, Ng Yen Yen's statement on the issue was purely her own stand, and she refused to comment on it.

She said everyone had the right to express his or her views or judgements, and she refused to comment on other people's statements.

As for the upcoming party election, Chew felt that everyone had the right to run for the party posts, but thorough comparisons must be made in order to elect the best person to lead MCA.

Chang: evaluate various aspects

Wanita MCA vice chairman cum Wanita MCA federal territory chairman Chang Yok Ying said, Ng Yen Yen had the right to express her personal views on the Chua Soi Lek incident, and that was the basic right accorded to every individual in a democratic country. Therefore, she had nothing to comment.

However, she felt that the election of a party leader must be done after evaluating various aspects.

Lim: offering only personal views

Wanita MCA vice chairman cum Wanita MCA Kedah chairman Lim Bee Kau said, Wanita had never discussed the Chua Soi Lek issue, and what Ng Yen Yen had expressed was therefore her own views.

"This is what we call democracy. She has the right to say what she wants."

She said she herself had not yet received any feedback from Wanita members on Ng Yen Yen's statement.

Tan: her own feelings

Wanita MCA vice chairman cum Wanita MCA Johor chairman Tan Ah Eng said, Ng Yen Yen could have expressed her views on the Chua Soi Lek incident out of her own feelings.

"This incident has not been talked about for some time. We almost forget about it..."

She refused to say whether she agreed to what Ng had said. "She has her own views... Wanita never talked about it." (Sin Chew Daily)
