PETALING JAYA, Feb 28 (Sin Chew Daily) -- The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM)) hopes that all parties should refrain from touching on sensitive issues that may jeopardize racial harmony and national interests in the run-up to the 14th general election.

Its president Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap said in a statement that Malaysian tycoon Robert Kuok is a highly respected businessman who must never be insulted by any politician.

He said ACCCIM regretted the baseless accusations made against Kuok, insisting that unverified news reports must not be exploited as excuses to attack any individual.

"Mr Kuok is an exceptional entrepreneur who has expanded his business empire from Malaysia to the rest of the world, including Singapore, Hong Kong and China."

Ter added that Kuok had made remarkable contributions towards the country's socioeconomic development, inducing generous donations for the construction of the library of Xiamen University Malaysia Campus, UTAR and independent high schools in the country, among others.

"The Kuok foundation set up by him has provided scholarships and bursaries to needy students to further their studies.

"His morality, business values and philosophies should be emulated by all."
