KULIM (Sin Chew Daily) -- Many people will spend their weekends with short outstation trips or partying with friends.

But a more rewarding and health-boosting activity is to pedal our way not only to sweat out the monotony of life but also to expand our social circles.

Cycling is also a perfect way to take in Kulim's breathtaking sights many non-cyclists may not even chance upon.

More and more people are joining cycling trips in Kulim in recent years.

See Kulim from a different angle

Tan Chin Seong, chief planner of Soon Lee bicycle expeditions, told Sin Chew Daily that biking is actually a very affordable recreational activity.

All that you need is to purchase a suitable bike and slowly pedal on to take in the beautiful scenery along the road.

For the safety of cyclists, Tan said they seldom choose to ride on busy roads but rather along quiet country roads and occasionally cross-country tracks for different experiences in each trip.

Other than Kulim, sometimes they will cycle further afield and even across the border to southern Thailand.

Tan said there are places of exceptional beauty outside Kulim, including Sedim and Gunung Bongsu which offer marvelous bird's eye view of Kulim town and, if you are lucky enough, an awe-inspiring sea of clouds under your feet.

Recreation aside, cycling trips have often acted as a fund-raising platform not only to meet the objective of raising funds for charity through registration fees but also allow cyclists from near and far to mingle and interact.
