Discovering Mt. Trus Madi

TAMBUNAN (Sin Chew Daily) -- 27km outside Tambunan in the interiors of Sabah sits the country's second tallest peak, Mount Trus Madi.

Scaling the 2,642-meter peak is by no means an easy job. The road from Tambunan to the foothill is a winding, muddy and uninviting one, passable only to 4WD's.

The first 2km hike towards the rest house is a warm-up exercise, and the remaining 2.9km uphill trail is downright primitive and pitch dark.

A small town about 80km from state capital Kota Kinabalu, Tambunan is known not only for Malaysia's second tallest peak but also the historical Salt Trail and Batu Gong Rafflesia Information Center, among others.
