KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 (Sin Chew Daily) -- MCIL Multimedia Sdn Bhd's e-commerce platform Logon has successfully joined the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO), and has become one of the founding members of Pikom's (National ICT Association of Malaysia) new E-Commerce chapter.

Pikom chairman Chin Chee Seong said the association has set up an e-commerce chapter to further enhance the whole e-commerce ecosystem in the country to deal with the stiff global competition.

The new chapter will be helmed by the association's deputy chairman Ganesh Kumar Bangah. All e-merchants, operators of online transactions, logistics and electronic fulfillment are encouraged to join.

Chin pointed out in a press conference last Friday that the establishment of the E-Commerce chapter was in line with the country's rapid development in the electronic commerce sector.

AT Kearney's statistics showed that the size of online retail market for Asean-6 topped US$7 billion in 2014, Singapore alone taking up 25% of the regional market at US$1.7 billion, followed by Malaysia and Indonesia each at about US$1.3 billion.

With the advent of the Asean Economic Community (AEC), Chin believed e-commerce development would be further boosted to take advantage of this huge market of more than 630 million consumers.

MCIL Multimedia chief executive officer Keu Tien Siong was among the invited guests at the press conference.
