Worse restrictions than for opposition leaders: Mahathir

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (MySinchew)-- Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad wrote on his blog that he was experiencing a lot of restrictions during the recent Umno general assembly, including talking to other party members.

"I was not only questioned by the police, I even experienced worse restrictions than the opposition leaders," he wrote.

Mahathir pointed out that he was not allowed to speak to other party members and some hotels had even received the instruction that if they allowed him to give his speech at their hotels, they would not get the government's business in future.

Mahathir also said party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak failed to explain the 1MDB and RM2.6 billion issues which the delegates hoped to know more in order to explain to the public or party members.

"Challenging the party president was something common in the past, and the challengers were still allowed to speak freely. It's different today!"
